Wags n' Brags

"Beware the Ides of March!", was a fair warning for Julius Ceaser and it turned out to be the same for some of our entrants. We had our first official trial as a full U.S.A. club on March 15, 2009, at our beautiful and well kept world class field on a bright sunny day in Dehesa.
    There was a total of 14 entrants with one dog pulled due to illness a few days before the trial. All of our aspiring "BH'ers" and thier dogs passed the BH under the watchful and knowledgable eye of our U.S.A. judge, Nathaniel Roque. Judge Roque gave each team a very thourough critique of the teams performances in front of a very supportive and appreciative crowd. We thank Nathaniel for taking the time to work our first trial.
    Along with the passing BH entries there were five schutzhund title entries with only one passing score. The passing team was our Schutzhund two team of Danlee Mitchell and his dog Theodora vom Adelhertz who together received High in Trial, as well as, High Schutzhund Two.. This team is a part of the San Diego Schutzhund Club who trains in Ramona, CA. The other teams put up a great effort, but it was one of those days when it didn't come together. It might be mentioned that the remaining teams were Schutzhund one entries and ALL entries, both schutzhund and BH were Handler, Owner, Trained!
    Anyone that has engaged in training a dog to perform in all three phases successfully can tell you that to form a working relationship, with all it's trials and tribulations, can take hundreds if not thousands of hours. It doesn't end when we put the leash away. All the teams should be congratulated for thier show of commitment not only to their team mate; the dog, but all those involved in the background. By competing and demonstrating a sportsmanlike attitude, can the sport of "Schutzhund" be made acceptable to the public. That is this persons opinion. It appeared everyone had a great time.
